The main screen. Shows everything for the selected date.
Header
The header contains date navigation (‹ ›) and quick-action badges:

- ⚡ — quick-add calories
- 📷 AI — identify food with the camera iOS

Tap the date label to open the full calendar picker and jump to any past date.
Calorie ring
The large ring shows calories consumed vs your target. It turns red when you go over. The number inside shows remaining kcal (or how far over you are).
Macro rings
Three smaller rings show protein, carbs, and fat progress against your daily targets.
Remaining row
Text summary: X kcal remaining (green) or X kcal over (red), plus grams remaining for each macro.
Net calories iOS
When Apple Health is enabled and burn data is available, a Net Xkcal · Ykcal burned line appears below the remaining row. Net = food consumed − active burn.
Macro donut chart
Appears once any food is logged. Shows the proportional protein / carbs / fat split for the day, sized by calorie contribution (protein × 4, carbs × 4, fat × 9).
Progress card
Three rows with mascots and progress bars, shown when data exists:
- Protein — daily intake vs protein target. Mascot turns happy when you hit the goal.
- Fibre — daily intake vs your fibre target (default 30g).
- Keto net carbs — shown when Keto is enabled. Mascot turns happy when under the net carb cap.
7-day calorie chart
A bar chart of the last 7 days. Each bar is coloured against that day's individual target. A weekly deficit or surplus is shown below the chart.
Water tracker
Tracks daily water intake in ml (default target: 2000 ml). Use − / +250 ml / +1 L to adjust. The bar turns green at the target and resets automatically on a new day.
Intermittent fasting card
Appears when IF is enabled in Goals. Shows current status (Eating or Fasting) with a live countdown, eating window duration, and fasting window duration. The eating window is inferred automatically from your meal log timestamps — no manual start/stop needed.
Supplement card
Appears when supplements are configured in Goals. Tap any supplement to mark it as taken. The count badge turns green when all are done.
Apple Health card iOS
Appears when Apple Health is enabled and today is selected. Shows your step count (with a 10k goal bar), active energy burned, and total burn.
Meal sections
Four sections: Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner · Snacks. Each shows its kcal subtotal.
- Add food — tap + Add in a section header to open food search for that slot.
- Edit — tap any entry to open the Portion sheet pre-filled. Adjust grams and confirm.
- Delete — swipe left on an entry to reveal the red Delete button.
- Multi-select & copy — long-press any entry to enter multi-select mode, then tap Copy to… to copy selected entries to another date.
- Favourite star — tap ☆/★ on any entry row to toggle it in your Favourites list.
- Copy meal slot — shown when a slot is empty; copies that specific slot from yesterday.
- Copy yesterday's full log — shown when today is completely empty.
Logging food
Food search
Type any food name to search. Results appear after 300 ms from three sources:
- Recent — your last 20 logged foods (instant, offline).
- Favourites — your starred foods (shown above Recent when the query is empty).
- API results — USDA FoodData Central (scientific database, per 100g) + Open Food Facts UK (UK branded products).
A scrollable action bar at the bottom gives quick access to AI Food, Manual, Meals, Recipes, and Paste.
Portion sheet
Shows the food name, brand, and per-100g macros. Contains:
- A grams input with live preview (kcal, protein, carbs, fat scaled to the entered weight). The last-used grams for each food is remembered and pre-filled.
- A micronutrients row (fibre · sugar · sodium) when data is available.
- An optional note field (stored with the log entry).
- A ☆/★ favourite toggle.
- Add to [meal] — logs the food to the current slot.
Barcode scanner
Tap the barcode icon in the search screen header. Point the camera at any product barcode — NutriLog looks up the food and opens the Portion sheet on match. Earn the 📷 Scanner achievement on your first scan.
AI food recognition iOS
Tap 📷 AI in the Today header or search action bar. Point the camera at any food and tap the shutter. The image is sent to an AI model that identifies the food and estimates its macros. Review and adjust the portion before logging. Earn the 🤖 AI Foodie achievement on first use.
Manual food entry
Tap ✏️ Manual. Fill in the name, optional brand, per-100g macros, and optionally fibre, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium. A live preview updates as you type.
Editing a saved manual food — long-press any manual food in Recent or Favourites. Tap Update food to overwrite cached values. All today's log entries for that food are automatically re-logged with the updated nutrition.
Paste nutrition label
Tap 📋 Paste in the search action bar. Paste text from a nutrition facts label (e.g. copied from a website). Tap Parse & add — NutriLog extracts name, kcal, protein, carbs, fat, fibre, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium automatically and opens the Portion sheet.
Quick-add calories
Tap ⚡ in the Today header. Enter an optional name, the kcal amount, and pick a meal slot. Logs the entry immediately with calories only (no macros). Useful for drinks, sauces, or anything where you only know the calorie count.
Saved meals
Tap + Add → Meals → + Create new meal → name it → add foods (each with a custom portion) → Save meal.
Tap + Add → Meals → tap a meal. All items are logged to the current slot at once. Long-press a meal to delete it.
Recipes
Build a custom food from a list of ingredients. Supports a cooked-weight override (useful when food loses mass during cooking). Per-100g macros are computed automatically. Log 100g of the recipe and adjust in the Portion sheet.
Progress screen
Latest weight card
Shows your most recent weight entry and BMI (from weight + height set in Goals). When Apple Health is enabled, also shows body fat %, HRV, and VO₂ max from Health data.
Weight prediction card
When your goal is Cut or Bulk and a weight entry exists, shows 4-week and 8-week projections at the expected rate (−300g/week for Cut, +300g/week for Bulk), plus the projected date to reach your target weight.
Log weight
Enter a value in kg and tap Save. Use ‹ › to log weight for a past date. Earn the ⚖️ Weigh In achievement on first save.
Charts & averages
- 90-day weight chart — polyline chart of all weight entries.
- 7-day nutrition average — bar chart per macro vs target. Red when over.
- Micronutrient weekly averages — fibre, sugar, sodium. Sugar > 30g and sodium > 2300mg are highlighted in red.
- 30-day macro trend chart — separate lines for protein, carbs, and fat. Shown when ≥ 3 days of data exist.
Personal records
Computed from the last 30 days: best protein day, highest calorie day, best fibre day, fibre goal days, and days logged out of 30.
Streaks
Shows all active streaks with current and best-ever values: 🍽 Food log · 🔥 On-target calories · 🙏 Gratitude · ⏱ Fasting · 🥑 Keto.
Body measurements
Log waist, hips, chest, and neck (cm) with a date picker. Each measurement shows its change vs your earliest entry in the last 90 days.

Goals & Settings screen
TDEE calculator
Uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. Fill in sex, age, weight (kg), height (cm), activity level, and goal type, then tap Calculate & Save. Your current weight is auto-populated from your most recent log.
Goal types
| Goal | Calorie adjustment | Expected rate |
|---|---|---|
| Cut | TDEE − deficit (default −300 kcal/day) | ~−300g/week |
| Maintain | TDEE | — |
| Bulk | TDEE + surplus (default +300 kcal/day) | ~+300g/week |
Tap the kcal input next to Cut or Bulk to set a custom adjustment (0–1000 kcal).
Macro split
| Preset | Protein | Carbs | Fat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balanced | 30% | 40% | 30% |
| High Protein | 40% | 35% | 25% |
| Low Carb | 35% | 20% | 45% |
| Keto | 25% | ≤20g net carbs | ~70% |
Keto stacks with any goal type. When Keto is selected, a Net carbs cap (g) input appears (default 20g).
Protein by weight
Enable Protein by weight to set protein as a multiplier of your body weight rather than a percentage of calories. Default multiplier: 2.0× (e.g. 2.0 × 82.5 kg = 165g protein/day). Fat percentage is set separately; carbs fill the remainder.
Adaptive TDEE recalibration
Tap Recalibrate in the Adaptive TDEE card to update your estimate using the last 7 days of food logs and weight entries. Requires ≥ 3 logged days and ≥ 2 weight entries.
NutriLog also auto-recalibrates silently every Monday when you open the app.
Calorie cycling
Toggle Calorie cycling to assign higher-calorie days on specific days of the week. Select the high-calorie days and enter a bonus kcal amount. The Today screen uses the per-day effective target automatically.
Intermittent fasting
Toggle Intermittent fasting and select your eating window (6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 / 20 hours). The IF timer card on Today infers your eating window from meal log timestamps — no manual start/stop needed.
Fibre target
Enter your daily fibre goal (g). The progress bar on Today and Progress screens updates immediately when you leave the field. Default: 30g (UK NHS recommendation).
Supplement tracker
Tap + Add supplement and enter a name, dose, unit (mg / g / mcg / IU / ml), and colour. The Supplement card on Today shows all supplements for daily check-off.
Apple Health iOS
Toggle Apple Health to connect NutriLog with the Health app. On first enable, iOS shows a permissions sheet. Add active calories to target adds your active burn to the daily target — note that wearable estimates can be off by 20–30% and the TDEE multiplier already accounts for exercise.
Daily reminder
Toggle on to receive a daily push notification. Use the ▲ / ▼ pickers to set the hour and minute (15-minute steps). The notification reschedules immediately when you change the time. iOS will request notification permission on first enable.
Appearance
Three-way toggle: System (follows device dark/light mode), Light, or Dark. Switches instantly. The dark theme uses true black (#000000) for OLED displays.

Tips
- Offline search — Recent and Favourite foods are stored locally and appear instantly without a network connection.
- Last-used grams — the Portion sheet pre-fills the last grams you logged for each food.
- Calendar picker — on Today, Journal, Gratitude, and Progress screens, tap the date label to open a full monthly calendar. Future dates are disabled.
- Editing a logged entry — tap it on Today, adjust the grams, and confirm. The old entry is replaced.
- Keto net carbs — all carb values are stored as net (available) carbs. USDA values have fibre subtracted at search time to match UK/EU labelling convention.
